Prof. Tham Kwok Wai

Kwok Wai Tham is a Professor at the Department of Built Environment, National University of Singapore and Visiting Professor at the Czech Technical University. He is an elected member of the International Academy for Indoor Air Sciences (IAIAS) and the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET). He has served as President and Trustee of the International Society for Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ), President of Indoor Air 2026 and Healthy Buildings 2003. He has served as advisor/technical expert to the WHO in COVID-19 taskforces and development of Indoor Air Quality Guidelines. He serves on editorial boards of several journals related to indoor air and energy. He holds patents in energy efficient air-conditioning and ventilation systems. He has been involved in the development of guidelines and standards for indoor air quality in the Tropics. His main research interests are in indoor air quality impacts on health, performance and perceptions. He received several awards including the Uichi Inouye Memorial Asia-International Award (2017), ASEAN Energy Award (2011).

Partnership Within and Across Scales: Trilogue among Technology, Data and Humans

Achieving performance efficiently and effectively necessitates a rational trilogue among technology (T), data (D) and humans. A reflection of advances in each of these dimensions is summarized against the challenges of global warming and emerging pandemics. Opportunities and deployment of technology and data (and analytics) against human behavior, requirements and aspirations are discussed at different scales: building-wide, zonal and personal. Partnership within and across scales is emphasized to achieve and sustaining wellbeing and health.
